The Manipur State CID was recognised vide Govt. of Manipur (H) Order No. 14/28/67-Pt. dated 16/03/1968. The State CID later trifurcated into (i) CID(Special Branch) (ii) CID (Crime Branch) and (iii) Narcotics & Border Affairs (NAB) vide Government of Manipur Order No.3/5(44)/87-H dated 9th April, 1992.
An organizational set up on the lines/structure suggested by the Ministry of Home Affairs for strengthening the State CID(Special Branch) for the State of Manipur requires its trifurcation into three functional Branches, viz:-
| a) CID (Special Branch) |
| b) CID (Security) |
| c) CID (Technical) |
The Govt. of Manipur, Home Department vide Order No.2/8(84)20101-II(iv) dated 16/10/2001 formerly separated the duties and works of CID (Special Branch) and CID (Security) under the overall supervision and control of ADGP(Int), Manipur as given in the order No. IC/11(48)/99-PHQ (Pt-III)/9874 dated 20/10/2001.
The Govt. of Manipur created the posts of SP/CID(Security) and SP/(Technical) vide order No. 2/8(17)/2007-H(AF) dated 06/11/2007 and order No. 9/1(17)2009-H dated 03/09/2009. Further, the Govt. of Manipur had ordered the posting of SP/Security vide orders No. 31/1/2002-IPS/DP dated 28/01/2009 and 26/03/2004 dated 03/05/2012 and posting of SP/CIS(SB)-Technical & Adm. vide order No. 26/03/2004/IPS/DP dated 02/04/2011.
The functioning of State CID9Special Branch) was trifurcated into the following Branches vide DGP Order No. 3/2(8)/2008-AB/1405 dated 02/11/2013:-

A Training of Trainers Course on Intelligence Tradecraft was conducted by the CID (special Branch), Manipur in collaboration with the Regional Training Centre, IB, Kolkata for officers of CID (Special Branch), Manipur at the Training Hall of Manipur Police Telecom Organisation Office Complex, Imphal from 24th to 28th March, 2014. Shri S.K. Lala, Shri Jayanta Biswas were the visiting faculty from Regional Training Centre, IB, Kolkata. 31 officers of CID (SB), Manipur including 2 Addl. SP, 1 Dy. SP, 16 Inspectors and 12 Sub-Inspectors participate in the training. The Training course included modules on secret Inquiries, Cover and alibi, interrogation, recruitment of sources, observation and surveillance, etc.
