Manipur Police Wireless Grid was established in the later part of 1956 for providing communication within the state. Police Wireless Control Room was installed in a small room of 10' x 12' within the Inter-State Police Wireless Station in 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Campus (presently in 1st MR Officers Club). The State Police Wireless Control was shifted to the present location in 1st MR campus opposite to 1st MR High School on 9/4/1958. Since no exact date of opening of Manipur Police Radio is available with us we can consider 9/4/1958 as the Raising Day of Manipur Police Radio.
In the beginning there was only three Wireless Stations including Manipur Police Radio Control and after shifting to the present location the number of stations increased to 8 including Manipur Police Radio Headquarter Control which was working from 0700 hours to 2100 hours on the basis of 3 hourly schedules.
Staff was initially headed by one Inspector on deputation from Director of Co-Ordination & Police Wireless (DCPW). There were 14/15 Operators (all on deputation from Director of Co-Ordination & Police Wireless and West Bengal Police Wireless). Only in the month of February, 1957 10 (Ten) boys were recruited for the first time for undergoing Wireless Operator Training at West Bengal Police Wireless.
Now the sanctioned strength of Manipur Police Wireless is 529 ( DIG – 1, SP – 2, ASP – 4, DSP – 16, Inspector – 37, SI – 88, ASI – 183, HC – 156, Driver – 10, Constable Messenger – 27, Head Clerk – 1, UDC – 1, LDC- 2 and Sweeper – 1).

In the beginning wireless communication was done through CW HF mode only. R/T VHF set came around in 1979 in the state. Now, highly secured digital VHF Motorola set has been commissioned in the state since 16/4/2012.
A building for Training Centre has been constructed at Manipur Police Radio Headquarters out of Modernisation Grant in the middle of the year 1984. Initial training to Basic Radio Operator trainees and Constable Radio Telephone Operators numbering 68 and 78 started from 17th September and 1st October, 1984 respectively. In addition to the standard courses we are conducting familiarization courses on new equipments, courses on modern techniques in communication etc. as and when necessary. The training staff have been deployed from the existing communication/maintenance staff as a temporary arrangement.
Manipur Police Computer Centre was setup in December 1988 with the installation of three Personal Computers (PCL 286 AT) as a branch of Manipur Police Radio with an aim to get the facility of Modern techniques in storing and retrieving of any kind of data/records of Manipur Police Department. Initially it was manned by one Inspector (Wireless) and one Asst. Sub-Inspector(Wireless) and started to computerise the IGP’s/DGP’s Standing Orders. The Manipur Police Risk Fund software package was developed jointly by NIC staff and staff of the Computer Centre in Dbase III plus on MS DOS operating system and started using the package since March, 1992. In the same year, a database was built up by the staff of the Computer Centre for the Posting History of the Police personnel.
As there was no computer trained hand in the CID Crime Branch Manipur, the computers and peripherals provided for State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) were started installing in the Manipur Police Computer Centre since 01/12/1992 and the software packages such as 40 Digit Finger Print System, Portrait Building System, Crimes in India, Crime Statistics, Profile of Terrorist, Property Co-ordination System, TALASH, CCIS etc. provided by the NCRB, New Delhi were started running in the state. After giving full training on the above packages to the CID Crime Branch staffs and ensuring that they have enabled to work independently on the packages, the computers and peripherals along with the software packages were shifted to the office of the SP CID(CB) office in the year 2000.
Presently, the main works of Manipur Police Computer Centre are:-
