The Manipur Police Home Guards was raised in the year 1963 under the Bombay Home Guard Act with its headquarters at old Police Reserve Lines, Imphal. The Inspector General of Police was the ex-officio Commandant General, Home Guards, Manipur and the Superintendent of Police, Manipur was the ex-officio Commandant Home Guards, Manipur. A full-fledged Commandant Home Guards Organisation was posted in the year 1975. Now, the Manipur Home Guards has got its own Home Guard Act, 1966 and Rule 1996.
Guarding of public buildings, bridges and other installations.
Patrolling for prevention of crime and prevention of mischief/damage to public bridges, installations, etc
Assisting the civil police in maintenance of law and order.
Performing such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Commandant General or Commandant.
When called up for duty, the Home Guards are given duty allowances and other entitlements as admissible under rules.
Open Bank account of every Home Guards members in free of cost UBI and started paying their pay/wages since September 2013.
Further for welfare of Home Guards members, one water tanker was taken from PHQ and supplying water to Home Guards HQ members/family.
Raising Day celebration of Home Guards is being observes on 6th December of every year since 1963(Home Guard Organisation established in Manipur) at Home Guards HQ by participating Commanders of all Districts Home Guards Personal of the Home Guards;
