HISTORY
On 29/10/1983, the Central Motor Transport Workshop was established
in the campus vacated by 6th Bn. Manipur Rifles (now
CDO/Imphal West Complex) by merging the Motor Transport Workshop of
Imphal District, 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles and 2nd
Bn. Manipur Riles. The mechanical staff was headed by Shri H. Daoji
Sharma, Dy.SP(MT), Imphal District. The Commandant, 1st
Bn. Manipur Rifles was the Officer-in-Charge of the workshop.
All defective vehicles of the Districts, MR Bns. and CID requiring
major repair were sent to Central MT Workshop for
repair/maintenance, etc.
In December 1985, the then IGP, Manipur felt the need to re-organize
CMTW to undertake repairs of all kinds of departmental vehicles. The
task of preparing the scheme was entrusted to Shri NK. Nair the then
Director of Police Wireless. The proposal for establishment of
Manipur Police Motor transport Workshop was submitted by the IGP,
Manipur to the Govt. On 23/01/1986. The approval of the Government
was conveyed by the Under Secretary(Home), Govt. of Manipur on
15/02/1986.
A proposal for creation of 55 posts for Central Motor Transport
Workshop was submitted by the IGP, Manipur on 15/03/1986. The
sanction for creation of the post of the SP(MT)-1, DSP(MT)-1, and
Inspector of Police (MT)-1 was accorded on 20th Sept.
1986. The sanction for creation of the posts of the SI(Fitter)-3,
ASI(Fitter)-4, HC(Fitter)-10, Constable(Fitter)-12,
Constable(Driver)-2, Follower(Cook/Sweeper)-6, UDC-1, LDC-1 and
Steno Grade-III-1 was accorded by the Government on 14th
August 1986.
