The 8th Bn. Manipur Rifles, Leikun,Chandel was raised on 1st May, 1985 at Leikun, Chandel District 3kms North of Chandel Dist. Head Quarter. Initially this Battalion was raised with 251 MR personnel transferred and posted from 7th Bn. Manipur Rifles to this Battalion with Sri JB. Ncgi, IPS as its Commandant. Later this strength of the Battalion was raised from 251 to 572 in the year 1986
LAND AND BUILDING:-
The Battalion is presently occupying area of 427.92 Acre of land under CS Dag No. -588 Liwakhullen under Chandel Sub-Division. Out of this nearly 27.54Acre of land are wet cultivable land under CS Dag No. 560. The handing and taking over of the said land was duly made on 4th September 1982 vide memo No. DC/TPL/7/70/78/649 dated 04/09/1982.
The Battalion is having sufficient Barrack
and Quarter for accommodation of the officers and jawans as well as
for the family member and Bn. HQ Leikun.
The Battalion is also having a small comforting Guest house as Officer Mess at the road side of Pallel-Chandcl road with 2 (two) V.I.P. bed room and l(one) sitting room, which is run by the Battalion authority.
The Battalion is also having 2(two) administrative S/M barrack type building for the office of the Commandant, Adjt. Branch and the Bn. Ministerial staff.
This unit has 2 (two) family line-1 (one)
is for officer/JCOs and another for ORs.
UNIT SCHOOL:
The battalion is having its own unit School
for the educational upliftment of the children of the unit family
line as well as for the children of surrounding village from class
KG-I to class-VII. with 8 (eight) teacher from the unit personnel
and 3(three) were engaged from out side civilian.
CANTEEN :-
There is 2(two) Canteen run in this unit. 1
(one) is the Unit Canteen and another one is Baniya Canteen (run by
civilian under contract).
Both the canteen are running smoothly for
the welfare of the jawans and family members.
M.I. ROOM :-
The Battalion is having separate katcha
building M.I. room with l(one) Medical Officer and other staffs.
Some jawans are also posted in this M.I.
Room as Nursing Assistance to assist the Medical Officer.
PEPLOYMENT:-
Large member of officers.JCOs and jawans are deployed in various
places in the area of capital city Imphal as static guards of
V.I.P., V.I.P escorts, Bank guards at Thoubal area, Dist. HQChandel,
on the National Highway-2 (elsewhile-NH-39) from Molnoi (Pallel) to
Tcngnoupal as R.O.P and static guards of vital installation at Morch.
